DoDEA Pacific East District Superintendent Dr. Jackie Ferguson is pleased to announce the selection of Ms. Catherine “Cat” Mince as assistant principal at EJ King Middle High School, located at CFA - Sasebo.

Ms. Mince has been an educator for 27 years and has taught in many diverse settings, from a one room dirt floor schoolhouse in the hills of Guatemala to an urban high school with more than 2,000 students in Arkansas. Her teaching career spans multiple states and countries, including Texas, California, Arkansas, Guatemala, Japan, and Bahrain. She has instructed students from kindergarten through post-secondary levels, including a role at the University of Arkansas Medical School, teaching medical Spanish. For the past 16 years, she has worked with DoDEA in Japan and Bahrain, teaching social studies and serving in various leadership roles such as school improvement chair and department chair, and professional development chair. 

In 1997, Cat earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and History as well as a BSE with a focus on secondary school from Southern Arkansas University. In 2010, she completed a Master of Education degree focusing on Curriculum and Instruction from the same institution. Currently, she is pursuing a Doctorate in Diversity and Rural Education, also from SAU. Go Mule Riders!

A former military spouse and mother of three, Cat was honored as the 2017 Teacher of the Year for the Japan District. She was also a Kagan Cooperative Learning Trainer and has presented for educators across the United States. While in Bahrain she was very active in the educational community outside the gate including founding the Bahrain TeachMeets, which provides teacher driven professional development opportunities.
