A Shining Achievement: EJ King NTHS chapter earns Silver Star of Excellence

SASEBO, JAPAN – EJ King Middle High School’s inaugural chapter of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) was awarded the prestigious Silver Star of Excellence Award on May 14, 2025.
This award recognizes the chapter's dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence in technical education. It is a testament to the incredible efforts of students, advisors, and the entire school community.
“I am incredibly proud of our students' achievements,” said NTHS sponsor Theresa Carl. “This club not only fosters excellence in technical education but also promotes our CTE career pathways, providing students with valuable skills and certifications upon graduation… Together, we are building a brighter future for our students and our community.”
EJ King’s NTHS inaugural year was filled with activities and achievements. A memorable induction ceremony was held featuring the JROTC color guard, the singing of the national anthem, and a guest speech by the installation commander. Students participated in a field trip to the zoo, where they worked with zookeepers to understand the veterinary side of animal care; connected with community and raised funds and awareness for NTHS at the base’s Friendship Day; set up a booth at the complex STEAM event, engaging with attendees and showcasing the chapter's activities and goals; and celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week by creating a form for students to vote on 20 different teacher awards, recognizing teachers' hard work and dedication.
“As the inaugural president of the E.J. King Middle High School NTHS chapter, I am inspired by each student's promise that together, we will forge new paths in innovation, leadership, and service, proving that when dedication meets opportunity, excellence follows,” said NTHS President Luke A. Danjanic.
EJ King Middle High School NTHS students are proud to be the only DoDEA school to receive the Silver Star of Excellence award and are motivated to continue striving for greatness with the support of staff, parents, and the community.
“From the very beginning of NTHS at EJ King M/HS, we believed in the vision and stood firmly behind it,” said NTHS parent Richard Danjanic. “Our commitment as parents was not just to our own child, but to every student who dared to lead, achieve, and inspire. Together, we helped build a legacy that will continue to grow.”
