Sasebo, Japan – E.J. King Middle High School in Sasebo, Japan recently hosted Career Day, bringing together students, staff, and members of the community for an engaging exploration of future pathways. The event, organized in collaboration with the School Liaison Officer (SLO), the school counseling department, and numerous community partners, featured more than 26 presenters representing a wide range of careers.

The event was structured to allow students to visit booths at their own pace, ask questions, and gather information about the professions that interested them most. To ensure meaningful participation, the schedule was divided into two sessions to ensure every Cobra had the opportunity to connect with professionals and explore their interests.

From healthcare and engineering to culinary arts and military service, the presenters represented various career fields. Students had the chance to engage in conversations with professionals about what their daily work entails, the education and skills required, and the rewards and challenges of their chosen paths.

Feedback collected from students after the event reflected strong enthusiasm and appreciation. Many shared that they discovered new careers they had never considered before, while others valued the opportunity to speak directly with professionals working in fields they hope to join. One student wrote, “It was inspiring to see how many different jobs are out there and to talk with people who are passionate about what they do.”

Assistant Principal Catherine Mince praised the collaborative effort, noting that Career Day “brought our community together to support student growth beyond the classroom.” The event underscored E.J. King’s commitment to preparing students for the future –encouraging curiosity, goal setting, and lifelong learning.

“Our goal is to give students real-world experiences that help them see how what they’re learning in school connects to life after graduation,” Principal Jennifer Gamble added. “Career Day does exactly that.”

E.J. King MHS extends heartfelt thanks to all presenters, the SLO office, parents, and community members who contributed their time and expertise to make this year’s Career Day a success.
